XRobotics’ Countertop Robots Produce 25,000 Pizzas Monthly
XRobotics, a San Francisco-based robotics company, has developed a unique solution aimed at helping pizza restaurants integrate robotics into their kitchens efficiently.
The company's flagship product, the xPizza Cube, is a compact countertop robot about the size of a stackable washing machine. Utilizing machine learning, it automates the application of sauce, cheese, and pepperoni onto pizza dough. Designed to accommodate various pizza styles and sizes—including Detroit and Chicago deep dish—the xPizza Cube can produce up to 100 pizzas per hour. XRobotics is not the first to venture into restaurant robotics, particularly in pizza making. Notably, Zume raised over $420 million to deploy robotic pizza trucks but eventually pivoted to sustainable packaging and ceased operations in 2023. Rodionov highlights that unlike Zume, XRobotics focuses on assistive technology that enhances existing pizza-making operations instead of attempting to revolutionize the entire process.

This assistive approach allowed XRobotics to keep the robot compact and affordable, fitting conveniently into existing kitchens. Initially launched in 2019, the company's first larger robot was capable of handling more than 20 toppings but faced implementation challenges similar to competitors. After extensive pilot testing, the team decided to develop the smaller xPizza Cube, launching it in 2023 to greater success.
Although XRobotics has not disclosed its total number of customers, its robots are producing approximately 25,000 pizzas monthly. The company recently secured a $2.5 million seed investment led by FinSight Ventures and backed by SOSV, MANA Ventures, and Republic Capital to scale production and installation of their robots.

Rodionov is optimistic about the potential within the pizza industry, citing the presence of over 73,000 pizza restaurants in the U.S. alone. The company plans an expansion to Mexico and Canada in the near future. Both Rodionov and his co-founder are pizza enthusiasts themselves, having tested various styles from cities such as San Francisco, New York, and Chicago—with Detroit-style pizza being a personal favorite for its distinctive square shape and crispy cheese crust.
